A Year on, Signs of Progress
Environmental activists have lauded the progress made in the year since a moratorium on new permits for primary and peatland forests was signed by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, but say the policy needs more time to work.

The moratorium map, first released on May 21, 2011, initially marked out 69 million hectares of forest area that would be protected under a two-year logging ban. The revised map, issued in November, excluded 3.6 million hectares from the protected area. Read about it in today's Jakarta Globe or subscribe to receive the paper every day.
