This represents a 17% growth versus the same period last year - the highest growth rate in the channel since post recession periods.
According to comScore chairman Gian Fulgogi: "While the economic recovery continues to be painfully slow, the channel shift to e-commerce appears to be accelerating". This was seen in almost all product categories, which experienced double-digit growth rates.
Over the same period, sales volume in the LinkShare network outpaced total retail e-commerce, growing at 30% vs. the industry's 17%. This underscores the value of the affiliate channel in clients' online businesses and the continued strength of the LinkShare network in driving volume for the channel.

This drastic swell represents an increase of 16.3% over 2011. Ad spending (including classifieds and directories, display, email, search, video - but not mobile) is projected to grow to CA$4.51 billion by 2016. The largest movement came from search and video, expected to grow at an annual pace of 11.2% and 34.3% respectively.

The "smartphone class", a new demographic that seems to defy age, gender, and race, consists of users who do nearly everything from their smartphone-including shopping. The new technologies have rerouted the path of purchase, many users shopping during small snippets of mobile engagement.
The smartphone class is rapidly expanding, as well. eMarketer estimates that by the end of this year, 116 million Americans will use a smartphone at least once a month-up from 93.1 million in 2011. By the end of 2013, eMarketer predicts that over half of Americans will use smartphones. | | By working towards the implementation of a mobile-friendly version of your website or blog, Publishers can better take advantage of Rakuten LinkShare's expanding affiliate network. As mobile continues to grow as a prominent e-commerce channel, Publishers that make it easy for consumers on the go to access new promotions from their smartphones will gain access to a burgeoning class of consumers.
