Pepsi, Pampers, Burger King and Teenage Girls

It wasn't me, it was XYZ!

As a kid, one of our most instinctual defences
when we had done something wrong was to
blame someone else.

As an adult, it is no so different when you
look at how other companies market.

Pepsi says they taste better than Coke.

Pampers says they are more absorbent then Huggies.

Even Burger King states their superior taste over
MacDonalds.

and does it work?

Well, yeah. Probably.

And we see it in the internet marketing community
also.

You only need to look at the latest hyped up launch
to see it.

"All gurus suck"

"Other products are scams"

"Facebook/Adsense/Google etc. is dead"

and the list goes on.

and does it work?

Undoubtedly yes.

But is this how you really want to be perceived?

As being successful because of your ability to put
down somebody else?

Reminds me a bit of a teenage girl who criticises
another for their skirt length to make themself
look and feel better.

Just because a marketing tactic works, doesn't mean
that you yourself want to be involved in it.

I know I often don't.

It may be an ethical issue, or may not be, but you
really need to find your own voice when marketing
otherwise you really won't be able to individualise
your own style.

Think about it!

Keeping it real in an (individually) unreal world,

PS. I told you yesterday about a product which is
so step by step that it is almost impossible to
fail.

If that is what you are looking for or want something
that you can hand to an outsourcerer to automate for
you then look no further:
